Northumbria University Renovation Programme

One of our long-standing commercial relationships has been as a preferred supplier for Northumbria University.  We deliver sections of their rolling programme of refurbishments throughout the University buildings as part of their Continued Improvement Programme.

The refurbishment programme is active across several University buildings.  They are often in active workplaces meaning work is carried out at a time when students and staff are using the offices, classrooms and facilities.

As one of our specialist areas, this is not a problem for JD Joinery.  We are experienced in undertaking projects during staff hours in a way that helps to minimise disruption and reduce the possibility of lost work time.

We have created an overview of the most recent refurbishments undertaken by JD Joinery at Northumbria University as follows:

CCE1 2nd and 3rd Floor Office Alterations

This project was to refurbish the 2nd and 3rd floor office spaces at CCE1 to adjust the available space to the School of Business and Law accommodation.  The complete works as undertaken by our team included:

Demolitions and alterations to existing walls and ceilings

Manufacture and install of glazed screen and acoustic windows

Alterations and installation of electrical, lighting, data, fire and panic alarm

Alterations to ventilation system

New floor coverings

CCE1 Student Library Office

We supplied and installed a floor to ceiling acoustic glazed screen and door to divide a larger office into separate spaces and improve the floor finishes as appropriate.

 Ellison D Block Maths Corridor

The existing block walls in the corridor were demolished and a new glazed screen was manufactured and installed along with a full height door.

Alterations were made to the installation of electrical, lighting, data, fire and panic alarm and the space decorated.

 Sandyford and CCE1 Teaching Rooms

The installation of new shared teaching rooms has been a key focus of the Northumbria University refurb programme.  10 rooms in CCE1 3rd floor and 17 rooms in Sandyford 2nd & 3rd floors required a full refurbishment to bring the existing space into full use as shared Flat Teaching Rooms (FTR’s) at the UNN Standard.  This also required an additional I.T refresh of kit for 7 rooms in CCE1 and upgrade of the existing lighting to LED’s.

The project also included:
