A pub in North Shields is undergoing a corporate makeover by the team at JD Joinery and Building Services as part of a major refurbishment project by Blu Sky Chartered Accountants to create a bespoke new HQ

The 100 – known as the ‘Tun’ to locals – closed in 2014 and is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment and renovation to turn the old wooden bar into a unique new office space.

The project is being led by the JD Joinery Commercial team in partnership with Blake Hopkinson Architects to ensure the space meets the needs of the firm in their vision to turn the well-known pub into open plan office premises.  You can read more about the project in this recent article in the Chronicle.

Joe Dixon, MD of JD Joinery and Building Services commented: “This is a high profile scheme and just one part of a wider push for positive regeneration in this area of North Shields. Our team is working closely with Blu Sky and Blake Hopkinson to bring what is an old building full of character back to life with a bespoke and high specification finish.

“Our commercial division work on a range of schemes and projects of varying sizes and this is definitely one of the more interesting schemes given the local profile of the building. It’s been a great experience for the team and we are now working hard towards handover in early summer when we can unveil the new look for the old hundred.”

Jon Dudgeon, partner at Blu Sky said: “We’ve been based in North Shields since day one and our steady expansion over the past 10 years inevitably led to our current offices in Northumberland Square being unsuitable for the needs of our 20 members of staff.

“We’ve been searching for new office premises for quite some time but could never quite find the kind of space that suited our business. I walk past the Tun every day and could see that it had real potential to support a move from social space to business offices with the right vision and investment.

“We’re pleased to invest in the future of our business in North Tyneside and contribute to regeneration in this part of North Shields as the perfect place to locate our HQ. Bringing back to life a building that has been a key feature of the local area for a long period of time is a real bonus in our plans. It’s safe to say that the whole team is already looking forward to unveiling the new office premises in the summer and welcoming visitors and clients to enjoy the new-look surroundings of the Tun”
